- God I am so totally okay with that man.
I’m going to assume that by now, most people know that Michelle Duggar, the mother on TLC’s “18 Kids and Counting” is pregnant with her 19th child.
When I heard this, I was disgusted. I mean really, 19 kids? Who the hell needs 19 kids? Why would you do that to yourself? I typed out a tweet about it: “Duggars, you’re disgusting” and then erased it, feeling like if I couldn’t put an actual quantifiable reason on WHY they shouldn’t have 19 kids, I should probably just keep my yapper shut for awhile.
Over time, watching the tweets go by, I saw a lot of things like this (and note, I don’t follow either of these people, I just searched Twitter for “Duggar uterus” and “Duggar vagina“, I’m using them as EXAMPLES, not pointing fingers, but I didn’t want to use tweets from people I follow and interact with daily):
“that Duggar lady is pregnant with her 19th child! brb consoling my vagina and telling it ill never treat it like a park slide.”
“Im gonna pull that Duggar womans uterus out myself if she doesnt stop having freakin children“
In other words, there were pages and pages and pages of tweets displaying a lot of anger, mockery, and crudeness around Michelle Duggar’s part in the pregnancy. In a way, as a woman, I totally understand this; I shudder and cringe at the thought of being pregnant nineteen times, giving birth nineteen times, going through these first months of life nineteen times…
But contrast those pages of results with the search terms putting the onus on Mr. Duggar, or even acknowledging his role in his wife’s pregnancy: “Duggar penis” returns ZERO results, “Duggar sperm” (yes, I seriously searched that) returns four, and “Duggar pants” (as in “keep it in your pants”, the first thing that came to mind when thinking of ways to “diss” a man for having sex) returns eight relevant ones.
TWELVE tweets in total that acknowledge or blame Jim Bob Duggar. I’m sure there are more out there, but I just went with the first searches that came to mind for both a man and a woman who are procreating excessively.
As the saying goes, it takes two to tango. Michelle Duggar didn’t put baby 19 in there herself; her husband played an active role as well.
So why is she taking all the blame?
What’re your thoughts?
I belonged to a evangelical message board (until I was not so polietly asked to leave for being to liberal) and there several people who knew the Duggar’s personally. As in most of that type of family, Jim Bob probably makes the final decisions when it comes to the baby making factory. However, Michelle PLANS most of these pregnancies. She only nurses for 4-6 months so that her cycle returns to normal to get pregnant again within the year (this is from a a family friend who was proud of this fact). I just read she was SURPRISED by this baby, how the fuck that happens when you have done it 16 times in the past is beyond me. As sad as I am for her vagina and her uterus (several of the deliveries were csections). They are at least fiscally responsible, they are debt free and receive no govt help.
I had no idea that she planned the pregnancies to the point of cutting short her breastfeeding to go for another one. Wow.
I’m not awake enough to discuss the “political” implications you (rightly) point out Tatiana.
All I have to share is that my local radio station does an all-request lunch hour centered around a theme. yesterday theme was, no surprise: The Duggars.
The best request (in my eyes) was Sheryl Crowe’s “My Favorite Mistake.” (HA!)
Which applies equally to Jim Bob and Michelle.
I don’t know very much about this family, but how the hell can they afford all these kids?? If state/gov’t aid is used, then that pisses me off. There is NO way the majority of these kids is being raised by mom and dad…they are being raised by older brothers/sisters. A really shitty thing to do to them, if you ask me. The fact that more people are mad at Michelle is really upsetting, but the same people who would argue that it is HER body, for her to make decissions regarding abortion, are probably the ones disgusted with her choice to have so many kids–isn’t it still her body to make decissions about?
From a physical standpoint, I can’t imagine what “that” part of her body must look like, feel like after so much use. That woman has got to have some continence issues by now.
There is just something WRONG with wanting to have so many kids…what are they trying to over-compensate for???
I watched one of the Duggar’s first shows, I think they were pregnant with number 15. Galla’s right, they are being raised by the brothers and sisters. When a new one is born they are Mommy’s buddy till weaned then they become a buddy to one of their older siblings. That older CHILD is responsible for teaching the baby, keeping track of the baby and so on.
I think Michelle gets all the blame because our society likes to put all the contraceptive responsibility on women.
Gah, I just checked my reader and I haven’t been here in 23 posts! That’s TERRIBLE! Of course, I haven’t been anywhere but holed up in my mind for that time, but still. It’s crazy how fast you fall out of touch. Now, on to Michelle Duggar’s vag.
As someone who struggled with infertility, I have a secret loathing of people like this. I so wish I could just have a kid anytime I wanted, but that’s just not life for me. So I don’t know where all the other Duggar bashers are coming from, or why they are so outraged. I guess I could speculate about concern for the welfare of children in huge religious families. To me, they are just strange, but not necessarily harmful. I daresay I don’t share their beliefs, especially when it comes to kids and raising a family.
But on the other hand, I do think Michelle Duggar’s vagina should make it into the medical hall of fame or something.
While I would NEVER put my body through this, (heck, I’m having a hard time talking myself into having a SECOND child) I can’t berate people’s family choices as long as they are financially providing for and satisfactorily taking care of all those children. My grandpa was one of 13, it was not uncommon for people to have larger families back then, we’ve gotten away from that, but I don’t necessarily think it is unethical.
Have you ever seen that “de-motivational” poster that has a family portrait of the Duggars and underneath it says, “Vagina, it’s not a clown car.”?
I think it’s quite simple, and tell me if I’m wrong. They like to screw like the rest of us but as such staunch Christians it’s a sin to screw if it’s not for the prupose of “being fruitful and multiplying”. If Jim Bob and Michelle, during the course of their LIVES together, want to screw 100 times than they’re gonna have to have 100 kids. The holy bible has trained them to think a little differently then most resonable heathens – Bob: “Honey, we haven’t has sex since the conception of our last child. I wanna screw again! Better stop breastfeeding the baby so you’ll be able to conceive again since we’re gonna have to get pregnant since it’s a sin to have sex for any other purpose.”
Also, has not a major part of their sustenance come in the form of a giant TV cheque?
