This idea’s been kicking around in my brain for a few weeks now, in particular when I took the pictures in the “I feel ambivalent about this chapeau, mother” series of Maia. I wonder what she’s thinking and what she’d say to me if she were a more eloquent creature.
So, welcome to my little meme, which you are all MORE than welcome to participate in:
All you need to do is type up some sort of entry that explores your child’s state of mind. If you could get into that brain, what would it be thinking? (If you have teenagers… you might not even want to know!) Copy and paste the HTML code below to grab the button, which will link back here. Leave a comment letting me know you’ve posted, and I’ll add a list of participants to the end of each weekly post.
Hi Mom,
Yesterday was Mother’s Day, and since every day is Maia’s day, I decided to be nicer than usual to you. I mean, I’m only twelve weeks old, and while I love you and all, that means I can’t do a whole lot other than take a long nap in the afternoon and then at dinner time too. I know you like the books I got you — one was about mommies and babies and the other one was about numbers — which is probably why you read them BOTH to me as we laid in bed together.
The lady at the Japanese restaurant that Daddy took you to for dinner was so nice! That’s why I showed her my biggest smile, and when she said I would be prettiest 100 days after my birthday, I expected you to know exactly what day that is. From the way you looked at me and said “Oh really? That’s nifty,” I think you didn’t. Have you counted it out on the calendar yet? Do you need to read that numbers book with me some more?
Daddy’s working this week, so last night you and me slept in my bedroom. I LOVE my bedroom! There are so many fun stuffed animals in my crib, and the whole room is so bright and colourful.
Anyhow, that’s all for now. My belly’s starting to feel grumbly and you looking like you’re about to eat dinner or hop in the shower or something else that you want to do, so I think it’s about time to make sure you’re paying attention to me!
xoxo,
Maia

Sometimes I wonder what’s going on in my toddler’s mind … and hope it’s nothing too scary!

I’ll call you later and pretend I remember, and just want to say hi–eventually you will ask for my response to the previously asked questions, and I’ll pull something out of my ass.
