- We are both still awake, and there are birds chirping outside and What. The. Fuck.
- Way, way too many skinny, pale, almost-vaguely-ethnic, blonde chicks up in my fashion editorials right now. Diversity, PLEASE.
…. who’s the fairest of them all?
Simple post today, since it’s Friday and I’m feeling chill.
Here’s Maia:

She’s lying on a blanket from her great-grandma and had been rolling all over the place. I finally got her to roll over and look at me, and she was sooo happy to see me!
And I also got this one, which is frickin gorgeous:

I love this one. I think that her eyes look so … grown-up I guess, like she’s got a lot more wisdom than we give her credit for.
Maia started rolling onto her belly while we were at Babcia’s.
She has never ever fallen asleep on her own, but always in our arms.
Tonight she didn’t want to be held, so I laid her on her back on her blanket to play around. She rolled onto her side, fist to her lips, and I picked up a book.
A few minutes later she had fallen asleep.
A few minutes after that, she was like this:

On her belly. Self-soothed to sleep.
Oh my goodness.

Here’s the picture that inspired me this week:

Dear Mom,
What were you thinking when you let Daddy have the hairbrush? Didn’t you know he was going to abuse the privilege of brushing my lovely locks? You had my hair done so nicely, then you turned your back on us for thirty seconds and POW… I’m wailing in protest! When you turned around to see what was going on — YOU STARTED TO LAUGH. How could you laugh? Can’t you see how absolutely appalling it is that he made me look like this?
And then you reached for the camera. Why? Why must you have recorded this moment for posterity? Are you going to pull this picture out when I bring home my first boyfriend? LOOK AT HOW ANGRY I AM at seeing the camera!
Bah. You hate me. You both hate me. I’m going to scream in your ear for a few hours one night, and you won’t know why… but believe me, I will. And this picture is why.
Also, I’m going to poop on you.
I’m outtie.
-Maia

But it’s so cute I have to share:

The tail end of a smile, but one it is nonetheless:

I’ve been trying to get a picture of Maia’s smile for like a week and a half now, but she is being sneaky about it. When she sees the camera come out, she just stares at it and totally ignores me. Maybe I should put some sparkly stickers on the camera… or a nipple.

Two months or so ago, I stumbled across The Belly Project. I visit it weekly (along with PostSecret!), and it’s such a beautiful, reaffirming, and positive website. Women often have self-esteem issues, and particularly after a pregnancy, we can end up with funky bellies that make us feel negatively. The Belly Project is trying to fix that — and show that many women don’t have “perfect” stomaches; some have stretch marks, extra chub, scars, or have lost tone in other ways. I always feel more positive about myself after going there, even though I don’t comment on the pictures; it’s comforting to know that we are all unique and none of us are perfect.
Took this yesterday just before we headed out to run some errands. I wasn’t sure if it was cooler outside than it looked, so she ended up getting this hat! Sooo cute…
